David Frykman Collectibles
Collectors of unique and expertly produced home accents love David Frykman collectibles. These high quality figurines, depicting all manner of animals and people in the great outdoors, have an air of the Wisconsin woods where artist David Frykman gets his inspiration and does his marvelous carvings.
He carves in wood—white cedar—and many of his creations are later used to make molds for resin figurine reproductions.
The animals and humans in the David Frykman collection have definite personality. “Prancing Reindeer” is a solid deer with a generous head of antlers and excited eyes fixed on the sky. She looks raring to go. “Marvin the Moose,” in contrast, looks like he has his feet firmly on the ground. Antlers that stick straight out to the sides of his head belie his stern expression.
Then there’s a trapped but playful Santa in “Night Before Christmas,” another of the current David Frykman Collectibles. Santa’s boots stick out through the top of the chimney while his head and arms dangle just above the hearth. Will he ever be freed?
These are just three of the many David Frykman collectibles, characters caught in charming and dramatic moments. They all look as if they might spring into action or strike up a conversation at any moment—and you know it will be an enchanting conversation. That’s the appeal of the David Frykman collection.
Despite the obvious work involved in creating the original, and then transforming it into a collectible piece, “Night Before Christmas” retails for around $25. Five inches wide and just over eight inches tall, it is one of the least expensive of the David Frykman Collectibles. Even the more intricate pieces, however, like “The Family Tree,” a tree full of pairs of animals, more than a foot tall, are reasonably priced. “The Family Tree,” one of a David Frykman collection called Noah and Friends, sells for about $85. “Hunter Carrying a Gun” (and closely followed by a bear), is just over $100.
David Frykman collectibles are readily available on the internet. Many shops that carry this desirable line have websites where they not only provide excellent pictures of the pieces, they take orders and ship to your door. It’s the best way to window shop for your favorite—no shop that you could visit could display as many figurines from the David Frykman collection as the internet can. You will even find retired pieces that are no longer being produced.
For a sense of connection with Frykman himself, visit the website for his studio gallery in Door County, Wisconsin. There, he sells one-of-a-kind carved wooden originals that will never be made into resin figurines. Naturally these are much more expensive than the resins, but it’s fun to dream.
