Lord of the Rings Action Figures

Months before the first movie was released, there was a huge demand for Lord of the Rings action figures that dictated that these were going to have to be some of the best ever made. Even before the epic films were created, J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings book trilogy was wildly popular with a wide range of fans from kids to their grandparents.

Considered a classic among fantasy novels, the story of Frodo, a simple young man from the country who finds himself embarking on a journey in a most extraordinary way, appeals to the reluctant adventurer in us all. His friends and new allies met along the way band together to form the fellowship that will help him, and in doing so finds themselves wrapped up in an adventure none of them had never dreamed possible.

Working closely with Gentle Giant Studios, they worked together to create a series of 6 inch LOTR action figures that simply blow all the others up to this point out of the water. The 2004 Collectors Series is the definitive collection, with 12 different assortments of Lord of the Rings action figures to collect throughout the year, incorporating every character from Frodo to the Ringwraiths.

While some creatures and characters have only a single figure, others such as Gandalf, whose role and form changes during the course of the films, have several different figures for each of the movie segments.

Older collectors may prefer the 9 to 12 inch LOTR action figures, which focus more on the most important characters in the film such as Arwen and the ever popular elf, Legolas. Although they are larger and more detailed than the smaller figures, they are also fully poseable and are dressed in fabric costumes reminiscent of the old GI Joe figures.

Those fans who want to add a truly realistic touch to their Lord of the Rings action figure collection also enjoy the horse and rider sets, the most detailed and chilling of which are the Black Riders - also known as the Ringwraiths. The horses themselves are just as detailed and articulated as the figures that ride them, even featuring eyes that light up when a trigger is pressed.

Due to the overwhelming popularity of the films, it comes as no surprise to know that it can sometimes be quite difficult to find a particular figure. Toy and hobby stores online are a good place to start looking, and there are certain to be plenty of Lord of the Rings action figures for sale at online auction sites, but beware of cheap overseas knock offs or "rare" items that seem to have a very high price.

Since the figures haven't been out long enough to truly appreciate in value the same way as some more classic figurines, it's a good idea to shop around and know what you're looking at before you commit to paying an exorbitant amount of money for one action figure.

J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy and the subsequent tales of Middle Earth have found a worldwide following among fans of all ages, boasting a universal appeal that not many other series can. This is mainly because the world he created is so rich and wide, but it is also easy to connect with his characters and relate them to our own lives and experiences, and learn from them in a way that is truly unique.

Collecting LOTR action figures allows us to bring these old friends into our house and keep them with us indefinitely for many more adventures to come.
